More than 20,000 volunteers are at the heart of the Canadian Cancer Society and progress would not be possible without them. In June 2008, John Jacobson completed his term as Board Chair. John has been active with the Society for more than 16 years. He has recently been awarded a national Canadian Cancer Society Citation of Merit recognizing his extraordinary service and leadership. He was succeeded by well known Vancouver film entrepreneur and philanthropist, Leonard Schein, who has taken on the portfolio with great enthusiasm and commitment. Volunteers are always needed.
Volunteers participate in activities that reduce the cost of delivering crucial programs and services in communities. Many hundreds of volunteers delivered health promotion information and took local action on key public issues that impact BC communities. Thousands of volunteers drive patients to treatments, assist with emergency aid applications, help at residential lodges, and assist with delivering caring support programs. Thousands of others support fundraising activities.
